CIE Newsletter December 2021 #42

Looking back - 2021

2021 seems to have passed by on super-speed! It's hard to believe that twelve months have passed since the current edition of CIE S 017:2020 ILV International Lighting Vocabulary and its companion the e-ILV were released along with the accompanying video made by several members of the CIE Board of Administration, but here we are.

And what a year it has been, with an online tutorial on CIE S 026/E:2018 CIE System for Metrology of Optical Radiation for ipRGC-Influenced Responses to Light, accompanied with subtitles in English and Chinese for the tutorial videos, and of of course our key conference CIE 2021, which brought 200 experts from 37 countries together online to share knowledge and experiences.

New publications continued to be released this year, with one Draft International Standard, five Technical Reports and one Technical Note being published after completion of TC work and passing through the CIE approval procedure. Plus several CIE publications have been made available in Chinese, Russian and Spanish thanks to the work of our National Committees in those countries - this vital work of our NCs ensures that the work of the CIE is accessible beyond readers of English.

Looking ahead - 2022 and beyond

2022 is sure to bring more activity for the CIE Divisions, TCs will be completing their work and more CIE publications will be released. Plus there will be CIE events (including tutorials and the annual meetings of the Divisions) and more information about these will be avaialbe in our Newsletters next year.

In addition to CIE events there are CIE National Committee and other regional events for you to mark in your calendars.

CIE NC Australia - Lighting Research Conference 2022
CIE NC Australia is pleased to advise that the 2022 CIE Australia Lighting Research Conference will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 as an online-only conference.

Researchers and members of the lighting community from Australia and overseas will present a variety of talks on topics relating to the core scientific work of the CIE. We hope to see you at what promises to be a high quality and informative one-day conference.

Significant pricing discounts apply to students and members of NC Australia. More information can be found on the NC Australia website.

CIE NC Denmark - The 8th Lighting Symposium
The 8th Lighting Symposium, LS2022, is organized in part by CIE NC Denmark, the Danish Lighting Centre.

LS2022 will be hybrid both online and live being held at the Copenhagen Campus of Aalborg University from September 21 to 23, 2022. The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers, professionals and industry that, through knowledge-sharing across different scientific fields, can propose new ways of living with light: ways that consider the needs of people and the planet, and rethink the approach to lighting design in both research and practice.

You can read more on the symposium webpage: https://ls2022.aau.dk

Lux Europa 2022
Every four years, the LUX EUROPA Society, currently consisting of 20 European lighting (technical) societies, organizes a conference on a current topic in one of its member countries. In addition to information about innovative lighting technologies, scientific findings, exciting projects and much more, the aim is also to promote personal exchange at European level.

Lux Europa 2022, the 14th International LUX EUROPA Conference, will be held in Prague from September 20 to 22, 2022. It is jointly organized by the Czech Lighting Society (CSO) and the Slovak Lighting Society (SSTS). The conference venue is the Artemis Hotel in the heart of the City of One Hundred Towers - Prague.

CIE 2023 at the 30th Quadrennial Session of the CIE
And looking forward, the next key CIE gathering will be at the 30th Quadrennial Session of the CIE, CIE 2023. The CIE 2023 conference will be hosted by CIE NC Slovenia in Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 18 to 20, 2023. The website and abstract submission system for CIE 2023 will open in late 2022 - we look forward to your submissions.

Call for Experts for CIE Technical Committees

The CIE has over 70 TCs working on new technical reports and international standards. If you have expertise to contribute to any of these or the new ones highlighted below, then you can apply for membership by sending in the CIE TC and RF Membership form and CIE Copyright Agreement form to CIE Central Bureau at ciecb@cie.co.at for the TC Chair's consideration.

In this edition of the CIE Newsletter there is a call for additional experts to CIE JTC 6 (CIE-ISO) Energy Performance of Lighting in Buildings
All those who are expert not only in energy performance of lighting in buildings, but also in daylighting, integration of daylight-electric light and light control systems are welcomed to apply to join this CIE JTC.

And don't forget the CIE Research Fora (RFs). RFs exist to facilitate ongoing knowledge exchange and research on a scientific topic or research area where there is insufficient completed scientific work to support the work of a CIE Technical Committee.
Currently the CIE has three RFs and if you are interested in joining one of these then fill out the form linked above and send it to us at ciecb@cie.co.at for follow up.

With this the Team at CIE Central Bureau wish the global CIE family a peaceful end to 2021, and a prosperous and healthy 2022!
